Accountingweb - I can only see first 5 responses

Didn't find your answer?

I have recently noticed on accountingweb that sometimes  I can only see the first five responses to a question when there are clearly more, and there is no grey bar inviting me to 'view all x replies'.

Portia highlighted this a couple of weeks ago. That's why there are a lot of "." posts.

Thanks Tornado. As you've probably seen already it's a specific issue affecting threads with six posts where you can only see the first five. Our IT team are looking into it and hope to have it fixed soon.

All the best,

Tom

It's good to see a response, for once Tom, from the AWeb team.
The manner in which some longstanding members have been treated on here, since 3rd May, has been quite disgraceful.
We're not exhibits in a zoo, or some alien force. However, that's how its felt on occasions and, without wishing to seem disrespectful, one of the chief culprits of this apparent change in atmosphere has been John Stokdyk (the Editor).
Perhaps, just perhaps, if we were treated as having some input and intelligence and given a modicum of respect, there might be some middle ground which we could all relate to?
The number of really good quality contributors, which you've lost, since 3rd May is beyond description.

Bit unfair to blame John. It wasnt his idea to change the accweb site format. Look here... its the US version of Accweb. Apparently Sift Media wanted all their site to look the same.

.. its the waste of space that gets me... all the pictures....

I'm simply allocating (some) responsibility for the apparent degeneration of the Aweb site to John Stokdyk.
We haven't had any members update since June and, we haven't had any sense of direction, from the Editor (John) since the site was relaunched on 3rd May.
How many remaining active members openly say that the changes have been an improvement?
It's a cumbersome piece of kit and, none of the Aweb hierarchy appear to "give a damn" about what active members think.
John has a mantra that "Aweb won't go back to the former foundation". That's fine but, for goodness sake, show some realism and be honest that the present mish mash can't continue forever.
To be blunt Aweb need to show some balls as, up to now, they've simply tinkered at the edges.

If that is the case, John should not have wasted people's time asking for feedback in discussions and commissioning a user feedback survey.

John is the editor, he has to take some blame for such a shoddy site.

It will also be John's decision to keep everyone in the dark about what is going on behind the scenes.

From what I've read, or more importantly, what I haven't read, Sift / Aweb seem to see the membership as an annoyance rather than an asset.

Methinks there is an "h" in the wrong place

Only Basil could suggest 4 lines of waffle when a simple "." will suffice

Thanks for the response.

I had not noticed that this had already been raised, been a bit busy.

It's pretty obvious that this is due to sloppy programming. It says it all about the quality of the accountingweb staff. Get the cheapest incompetents you can find, exaggerate how much people are interacting on the site and don't respond to any criticism. We all know what the result is in that business model. Customers leave in droves.

This was raised over a week ago, but is only now being looked at?

Here's a thought. Get rid of the "load more" buttons entirely. There has been a huge amount of negative feedback to their introduction, and now they are breaking the site. I think most people would consider that a no-brainer.

Of course you are all wrong...AWEB have an expectation that threads will no longer get more than 5 replies in future and have there engineered the site accordingly.

The only responses now seem to be those closing down threads - shame on your AWEB...sorry John but your attitude stinks...perhaps you are towing the party line but have the balls to call a spade a spade...or in this case a deeply flawed website...erm well deeply flawed (I won't use bad language as clearly I will be kicked off the site).

Having logged on, I gave in to temptation and responded to another question while I was here.

Of course, being the 6th post, it didn't appear. I didn't think it was possible to feel less like engaging with the site, but Sift continue to surprise on that front.

I have a great idea. Why not have a button that says "Show comment" after every single post, and that button ostensibly reveals the next post along. Coupled with what is (to my mind) obviously the linked missing 6th post issue (i.e. "Show Comments" doesn't show the next), no-one will ever be able to read any response, since it will always be missing. That will keep AA nice and quiet and manageable whilst still driving unsuspecting members of the public here in the hope of an answer to somethings, and they'll be able to see all the lovely ads that generate the income.
