Accrued holiday entitlement for term time workers

Confused with how to work out holiday entitlement for part-time, term time workers

Didn't find your answer?

Help!  A staff member works 35 hours per week, 38 weeks per year, term time only.  The leave year starts 1st Jan.  She gets paid monthly, and wants to hand her notice in 31st July, giving 4 weeks notice to leave 25th Aug.  She has been "off" for all the school holidays from 1st Jan to present.  Should she be paid for her notice period in Aug?  or will she have used up all her accrued leave already?

Who knows without knowing full year entitlement and number of days used/paid

For those that say work five days a week and are entitled to say 28 days a year paid holidays, maximum full time days worked is 232 ( (52x5)-28) and so holiday accrual rate would be something like 12.07% (28/232) of time worked. Calculate this, deduct what already paid and see result.

Also, it is common in education to pay 1/12 of annual salary each month even though no work is done in (for example) August - so you probably need to go right back to the beginning of the year and check from first principals.

Yes, tends to be a mess.

My other half works in an Edinburgh school where this happens, I still do not understand her payslips and have given up trying, all I know is that in less than a week's time she will get circa 6-7 weeks of holidays-life is unfair on those of us who get the paltry 4-5 weeks plus stat days.
