One sales invoice dated July 2016. One payslip dated Nov 2016. One purchase invoice dated Jan 16 for £35.
To my enquiry as to where the rest of the documentation was he said I did a lot of cash jobs but I don't know for how much. His 2014-15 gross Incomewas £38000. I despair

With annoying people like this I like to start off by having them order (because they wont have kept them) copies of bank statements for the whole year for every bank account they have....they find that quite annoying ;-)
Yes, one of the stupid ones who wants me to make up figures has made it to my own client list. It's that time of year. I think your client can be congratulated for beating them to the prize for most stupid for 2015-16 so far.
One of my clients produced receipts for repairs and other matters. I pointed out that they were for the wrong year. She said: "I know. I thought it would give you some idea of my expenses".
She told me it had been a nightmare looking all over her house for documents I might need. I suggested that she put ALL documents for a particular tax year in one drawer. Then they would be all together when she needed to bring them to me. She said: "That's a good idea!".
