Answers to queries

Is it just me, or are others noting that responses to queries are starting to appear in threads in an order different to that in which they're given?

In this thread: http://www.accountingweb.co.uk/anyanswers/question/how-set-enterprise-management-incentive-scheme-emi The latest response from Stephen Aburwood was posted after response of James Price, but appears before it when I view the thread.

I've noticed

I messaged Henry a few days ago about this problem.

Quoted reply

See below...

Ah I see

And if you then just delete the quotes?

Thanks (0)

What if you use the reply button...

... rather than the box at the bottom of the tread then?

Thanks (0)

Agreed

I've seen a contribution of mine appear listed way higher than the post I was responding to.

Shirley, thanks contacting Henry.

Thanks guys

at least I know my eyes haven't gone wonky!

It's because

I'm pretty sure that if you select "quote" when you reply, then it is posted directly below the post which you are quoting.  For example, I will reply to the first post by Shirley in a minute, let's see where it comes out.

I agree it's confusing, but there is method in the madness.

Thanks (1)

Oh...

... let's not go down the cider road again!

.

I noticed that if you relpy via the "quote" method, then your post will be posted under the post that you used to quote from and not added at the end.

is this maybe the problem?

More info

These problems are ones that occurred when AWeb was revamped, and subsequently fixed. It look like some of the problems have resurfaced.

I also have warning messages in PM's, where it says some of the content is not secure.

We're on it :-)

Sorry for the delay folks - just wanted to let you know that we've spotted this and the team is looking into what we can do to resolve the issues people are experiencing and we'll keep this thread updated with information as and when it's available (you should hear more tomorrow, hopefully).

I did want to reassure you about the secure/insecure messages that sometimes pop up. There are certain tags that prompt the site to attach an https (i.e. secure) URL to a page that may still contain unsecured content. This is usually an image or ad and doesn't affect any private data you may have on the site :-)

Getting confused!

Just spotted that replying puts a comment directly under the relevant post - thought I was losing my mind then! I'm just getting clarification from the devs so that there's a record of how it all works that everyone can see :)

Update

Sorry folks, fun's over :P

We've fixed it so that all replies will now appear in line and in proper chronological order. This saves on any potential headaches caused by sudden non sequitur posts and replies not appearing where users expect them to.

Not quite fixed

The fun isn't over on the mobile version of this website!  It still posts under the quoted comments.....

It may just be my PC or browser

.. but 'jump to last comment' doesn't work if there is more than one page.

Me too

I agree.  It used to work, but now it's broken - it just spits me out back at the Any Answers home page.  Using Chrome on Windows.

While we are commenting ....

Would it be possible to get rid of the pages?

I thought it was better and easier when AWeb kept all the posts together.

Not sure

Henry will be able to comment, but I think there is a technical issue with limitless posts on a single webpage.  Also, the old system didn't work well on mobile phones, I could never see the comments after about the 20th or so.

Edit:  Beaten to it!

Pagination

Hi Shirley

Just thought I'd jump on this one to reply. The pagination exists to keep the length of the entire page down and therefore the length of time it takes to load. As Aweb is a big and active site (and we wouldn't want that to change) we try to find ways to make it as quick as possible. People get fed up when pages take a long time to load - including us!

This is an in-house built commenting system but other 3rd party systems i.e. Disqus, work in the same way. We did put the pagination links at the top and bottom of the comment list following member feedback.

I’m not sure why the jump to last comment isn’t working but will get our tech team to have a look.

Thanks

Jenny

Fair enough

The reason for pagination is now understood.

This hasn't been resolved...

... on the mobile version of the site.

In this thread: http://www.accountingweb.co.uk/anyanswers/question/hobby-or-trade I have a post that appears before that of MacktheDiningSpoon in the normal web version of the site, but on my Android device, Mack's post appears before mine because he has quoted the previous respondent.

'Jump to most recent comment' is still faulty, too

This utility still doesn't work where there is more than one page.

Update

Jump to last comment should now be working for threads that go beyond a single page. I've passed the issue with mobile vs desktop browsers on to our developers as well.
