AV thread

I gather from recent updates on this thread and some contact from members that this thread has got out of hand.

I've temporarily taken it down so I can read through it properly and remove any content which is not allowed.

In the meantime folks, please do not re-start this topic anywhere. Thanks.

Suggestion

Would it not be possible to censor the relevant posts in situ without stopping the flow of the most interesting thread on AW for over a year?  Just a suggestion... I do appreciate that you're doing your job :-)

Thanks (0)

Limits

I'm afraid I cannot do that. If I make it so that the thread is still live, people will continue to comment and I will never catch up.

If there are libellous or offensive comments on there they have to be removed; in order to find them I have to read the entire thread - this will take some time.

I shall endeavour to get it back up as soon as I can.

Apologies for the disruption to your service.

just to say ...

... Becky, please do carry on. However, I just wanted to reiterate the other comment that the AV thread has been extremely interesting. Hope it's back soon.

Back soon, please

Becky

I hope you are able to moderate the thread and get it back up soon.

My concern is that we may then get an argument about the argument - with it being said that the moderation has distorted the thread or has been partial.  I appreciate that yourself and others at AWEB Towers have studiously stood back and allowed a lively - and sometimes a little bad tempered - debate to flourish.  Well done!

David

Moderation

I fully expect one of my comments to be withdrawn - no problem with that. But, Becky, please also have a look at some of the comments on another thread (you know which one!)

Edit: I see that thread has already been pulled. Thanks

Happy not to see it back!
The amount of long-winded repetition and misrepresentation of people's views meant it ceased to be entertaining. How many posts were there - 200 or so? When 150 of them come from the same 3 people, something is amiss. It's debate by interminable stealth, not wit.

Not surprising

I am not surprised about this. It seems to me that certain contributors to this forum, rather than respect others opinions, would rather resort to personal attacks.

No one makes you read it - or do you just enjoy moaning about others ?

Thanks (0)

AV is OK, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

@C_D
You are right. No one makes me read it.

As much as anyone I like to witness the ebb and flow of a debate with a dash of humour thrown in. I am interested in subjects where I make a post and I am interested in others where I do not contribute. To see threads disintegrate can spoil the enjoyment of them and surely the disintegration is not the primary purpose of them?

To suggest that I should either a) not read or b) stop whinging is not the grown-up solution unless, of course, you believe that the objective of a thread is to engage in a slanging match and get it stopped?
You surely don't, in which case you too should support restraint.

It's back

Thanks Becky.

I have to support Andy Partridge on this

Interesting debates here are sometimes ruined by certain contributors.

Huzzah for Becky - I am on here for accounting advice/discussion not a free for all scrap - plenty of blogs and sites out there for those wanting to indulge.

And nope - I stop reading when I realise that's what a thread has degenerated into.

Moderating forums - never an easy or happy task - so thank you for doing it so well!

Gateway timeout on the AV thread ....

So it is fairly acedemic - whatever one wants to post there has to be a robust backend in place which clearly is not the case with a heavy Aweb thread

504 Gateway Time-out
The server didn't respond in time

Thanks (0)

Thanks folks, and the Timeout situation

Thanks for your comments folks, it wasn't an easy one in some respects this morning, but I wanted to get it back online as soon as I could, it would be awful if we couldn't debate this today of all days - it really is an historic moment for us Brits whichever way you look at it.

JC - we have been having more trouble with the Gateway timing out, this happens more on longer threads obviously due to the load time. I have asked the tech team to do anything they can to improve things, but I fear for a proper overhaul we will be waiting until we move Aweb over onto its own server.  This is happening in the next month or so I believe - I will update you as soon as I have an official date on this.

In the meantime guys, if you are having any problems please contact me so I can look into them or at least let you know what's going on.

Cheers!
