BTC Software bundle

BTC Software bundle

Hi

Can anyone give feedback on BTC accounts production, CT & SA software bundle.

£995 per year so cheap as chips and going to get a 30 trial but keen to hear from anyone who has used it for accounts & return filing.

Many thanks in advance

Cheap? Sorry, but in todays world £995 is not exactly "cheap as chips", unless your chips are hand-cooked by Jamie Oliver and served with Dom Perignon and Caviar. It's cheap compared to Iris, but that's about it.

No need to apologise

Im more than double that just now and IRIS & Digita are more expensive again. Are you happier with "more cost effective"

But too the point........ Any feedback?

I have not used BTC for tax in a couple of years, and have not seen the new accounts production module at all so cannot comment on it. Nothing wrong with it as a tax product, but it's showing its age and I don't think they can justify the price any more when you can get similar functionality in the cloud for a fraction of the cost. My advice would be to try similar priced or cheaper products as well and choose what works for you. I assume you've looked at taxcalc and taxfiler which would both be in your price bracket?

BTC - great value

I changed from Drummohr/Iris to BTC for tax work a few years back as Drummohr costs went up with Iris charging for different modules and have been very pleased. Find their Tax Return and the practice management very easy to use. It is great value if like me, you do more Returns than can be covered by the other packages limits on numbers or where you would othewise have to buy several different modules. For instance I have 20 Trust Returns, a couple of hundred SA returns and a few companies that need the advanced CT return with supplements not just the simple form. I have not gone over to their accounts preparation as yet. Mainly as I haven't taken the time out to investigate it properly. I use VT accounts which works well with BTC returns. Also good to be able to file abbreviated accounts with company house direct from the BTC screen. I have also found BTC support to be excellent.

I've had a very good experience

I've used BTC for a couple of years now, having previously used Ftax (pretty basic) and trialling TaxCalc.

I found that BTC really came into its own when using their Practice Management, it just links everything together nicely and that saves me more time than anything else. I use VT final accounts, which imports into BTC well, so haven't tried the BTC accounts module. I pay about £1k for the BTC PM/SA/CT package and then about £150 for VT.

I've phoned BTC support probably 4-5 times in total, on each occasion I've spoken to an extremely competent person, on 2 of those occasions they've remotely controlled my PC to solve the problem, it's been a very good service.

I understand that BTC cloud is under development, although that's not something that will benefit me personally, infact if BTC (or any other tax/PM/accounts package) were to go 100% cloud then I would change software.

I never have enough time to trial every package, but BTC does everything I need for a low price. I like the unlimited clients, it's one less stress. The only alternative for me would be Iris/Digita, which costs a decent amount more.

As a result of acquiring fees we are currently using a range of different products (taxcalc, ptp, vt, taxfiler) but are moving the whole lot to taxfiler this year as it does everything that the others do (except practice management which we don't use) but is much better value. Not everybody likes the cloud but we prefer it, and it's much better value than desktop software like btc or taxcalc IMO.

Pause for thought

My BTC licence expires at the end of the month but you have prompted me to look at the Taxfiler website, had not realised it included Trust Returns, certainly need to give it some thought, thanks for the info.

I'd just echo the points about the Practice Management module and the support being excellent.  I also believe BTC are working on a cloud offering, although don't quote me on that.

The tax software is very easy to use, but the key benefit is the PM solution.  Workflow management and planning is a breeze with this.

Not used the accounts production software for the same reasons as others.  We have VT and haven't got round to checking out the AP functionality because VT is so cheap, so easy to use and integrates with BTC anyway.

BTC is a great all round product.  We moved from Sage a couple of years back.  We use BTC because of the tax, but also because of the database side of it.  It allows to draft standard letters and then send them from the database, thereby creating a record of what you have done.

The reminder system is great and generally very user friendly.

Another vote for BTC

Wrote this last May:-

Was with TaxCalc for 17 years for SA & CT.

Moved SA to BTC & initially hated it. Persevered & a few months on am loving it! You need to get 'in' to the database & use it properly to get the full feel of it. Looks like you are reaching similar conclusions.

At present am using BTC for the database functions & SA tax. Have left accounts production with IRIS and CT with TaxCalc at present as thought the change may be too much all at once & initial impressions were that BTC wasn't as polished as the other products. Didn't really get on with the 'spreadsheet' approach but that could well be that I didn't devote enough time to get 'in' to those as well.

BTC doesn't have the nice user interface of, say, TaxCalc, for SA but once you overcome that & look at the substance over form & the integration that you mention you start to realise how good it is.

Probably will persevere with accounts production & CT next year & will have a much more integrated solution.

I think, in time, BTC could be that holy grail of a completely integrated system & also lead to the (almost) paperless office, again all within one system. (That's other than payroll which it would take several hundred wild horses to drag me away from MoneySoft!)

Now been though the whole of 2015 Self Assessment season and am still loving it!

Taxfiler to BTC

Taxfiler is superb its in cloud still good with speed. However I need an integrated suit now. Therefore moving to BTC. I think it is great value. I am still discovering it feels bit slower not sure because of the software or Windows 10. I am planning to use some cloud based platform to host it.
