Buying and Selling in Holland

Dutch VAT

Didn't find your answer?

We are a UK VAT registered company. We want to buy goods from a Dutch VAT registered company based in Holland, but have the goods sent to an address in Holland (so the goods never leave Holland). Our customer who wants delivery in Holland is an Irish company who is Irish VAT registered.
Do we need to be VAT registered in Holland for this? Or could we use a reverse charge VAT scheme because our customer is not VAT registered in Holland? Or any other suggestions?! Many thanks.

I suspect since the goods have never left the netherlands that the supplier will charge VAT hence better to register for VAT in netherlands before you purchase the goods

If your customer has a fixed establishment in the Netherlands you can apply the reverse charge to the supply and you would recover VAT on the purchase through the '8th directive'. Indeed, you would not be permitted to register.

If however your customer has no Dutch establishment, you must register and charge VAT.
