CAN I AUDIT A SCHOOL BREAKFAST CLUB WITHOUT AN AUDIT CERTIFICATE

A school breakfast club has approached me to carry out an audit. Is this a statutory audit? The club is not a company or a charity but will be subject to local authority regulations

I would be very surprised if this were to be a statutory audit - requiring a statutory audit for a small organisation like this would be overkill.

Best thing to do would be to request a copy of the requirements from the local authority to see what is required.

I would expect this to be a case of using the term 'audit' too loosely.

Read the constitution and LA requirements

This is not a stautory audit if it is not a company or a charity.

Are you sure it is not an unregistered charity?

If the constitution or the LA require an audit by a registered auditor then that is what is needed otherwise  off you go.

Be sure to define in your engagement letter exactly what level of assurance you are giving and repeat it in your opinion, if this is not a stat audit then it is all down to the contract between you.

Sounds like...

someone means produce accounts and not audit the accounts.

I often come across businesses who misunderstand the difference between producing accounts and producing audited accounts.

First two posts cover it, check what they mean by 'audit'.
