Backup was done with version 7 now using version 11 trying to restore backup return error message "Error creating file C:\PROGRAM FILES\SAGE\ACCOUNTS\ACCDATA\TMAIL\TMAIL.MDB"
Then it will say backup restore unsuccessful. However, the company name will appear on the Tittle bar and a logon screen will come on. If I try to login it will return invalid password message.
Any help is appreciated.

Restore
If the file in the error message exists, try deleting it then restoring the backup again.
Invalid Password would suggest that the restore was not successful.

Can version 11 read version 7?
I know periodically SAGE versions can't read earlier ones, for instance version 11 will have to be loaded into v12 and a new back up done before it can be loaded into v18!
Johndon68's advice was to delete the TMAIL.MDB file (if it exists) from the location given in your opening post, not from the Sage backup itself.
You will not be able to open the backup using Windows Explorer as it needs to be restored into Sage.
As I understand it, you should be able to restore a backup from v7 of Sage Line 50 in to all versions up to v13 (Sage 50 Accounts 2007).
Sage
call sage help
Sage don't support v11 any more, it was 'end of lifed' some time ago...

Sage Backup
From past experience you may need to restore the version 7 backup onto version 10. Then create a version 10 backup.
Restore the version 10 backup onto version 12 and create a version 12 backup.
A version 12 backup should then resotre onto any more recent versions of sage line 50.
I hope this helps.

Restore the version 10 backup onto version 12 and create a version 12 backup.
But the OP is trying to restore in to v11, not v12 or later, a v7 backup should restore into v11 with no problems...

SAGE
Why not try this if all else fails.
From your current version of sage, produce an audit trail, then use the import facility to import the transactions
The result may not be pretty, but you will have the transactions in the G/L etc

From your current version of sage, produce an audit trail, then use the import facility to import the transactions
The result may not be pretty, but you will have the transactions in the G/L etc
Only problem with that is that the import/export routine ignores the following transactions:
Sales Receipt
Sales Discount
Purchase Payment
Purchase Discount
It might help at this point if the OP was to come back and say if deleting the file in question solved the problem... :)

My mistake
Sorry for mis reading the query but the approach will still work by creating a version 10 backup first.
From memory Sage made some major changes to the software structure in version 10, so to convert from any version pre version 10 to post version 10 you need to get a version 10 backup.
Iveymj1 is correct
You do indeed need to restore it into version 10, take a backup and then restore the version 10 data into Sage version 11.
I think it was something to do with the Report Designer changing file formats in version 10.
Restore v7 backup in to v11
A v7 backup can be restored directly into v11 (in fact you can go back to v5) and the data will be upgraded automatically.
Whilst there were changes to some stationery layouts that required the running of an additional utility called AddPurch (Which is detailed in the v11 documentation), this would not stop the restore of a v7 backup into v11 and would not produce the error that the OP reported.

Service Pack
I am sure that about that time there was a service pack on floppy disk which needs to have been loaded and applied to version 11.
I have had the same problem as the op and always found loading into version 10, then into 11 solved the problem.
csv 7 to 11 backup
Unfortunately Sage will only allow you to go back 3 years with previous backups of Sage
If you have a recent version - did you have an older version previously
If so after backing up your current version and making sure you have all of the codes and product keys - re-install your earlier version which may still be compatible with 2007
Alternatively get your client to give you log in rights to their computer so that you can open and use the sage 2007 on their computer.
Pulling off the reports you require and sending them to yourself.
Restoring Backups

No they don't - v2011(17) can restore backups all the way to v11 (i.e. going back 6 years) and v2012(18) can restore backups back to v12, as I've mentioned, v11 can restore backups all the way back to v5...

Not sure I understand what v2007 has to do with it, the OP is going from v7 to v11...
