I have a client who is self employed. Does his class 2 national insurance contributions qualify him for state pension?
Here is an extract from HMRC website:
National Insurance contribution classes and what they pay for
BenefitClass 1 - paid by employeesClass 2 - paid by self-employed peopleClass 3 - paid by people who want to top up their contributionsBasic State PensionYesYesYesAdditional State PensionYesNoNo
Don't want to hijack a thread, but have a client who has never paid Class 2, thinking, wrongly, it didn't qualify him for anything. Can he backdate his contributions to secure his state pension?
