I often produce figures/data in excel and want to present the data in MS Word format as part of a report. Is there an easy way to convert an excel worksheet into Word format? I am able to convert an excel document into a PDF (excel 2010) but would also like to convert to a MS Word format also.
Is there a clear and easy way to carry out the excel to word conversion and hold the same layout as it appears in the excel format?

If Only...
You can embed an Excel table in a word doc via Paste special, but this can be troublesome.
If any one has a better idea, I'd be glad to hear it too! I think they are fundamentally different beasts, and have spent many happy hours trying to bridge the gap...
There is a special copy
If you hold down the shift key when selecting edit copy you will find a "copy picture" option. This will allow you to embed the selected area as a picture rather than a table into word and it avoids the whole sizing issue which is probably what WhichTyler is refering to.
Thanks
That could be useful where the Excel is finalised & fully formatted. I usually find that it needs some tweaking as soon as it is in Word...
Not sure it if helps.Highlight the Excel doc where required and cut & paste to a word page/report. It will appear exactly as the Excel doc
After transferring the Excel info to a Word doc as I suggested you can then adjust the size of any part of it by using the space toolbar in Word ( where the font is selected)
Troublesome ?
You can insert an Excel spreadsheet into the Word doc, then simply copy into it from the original Excel spreadsheet. It doesn't have to be Paste Special, and you can modify it any way you want, so why is it troublesome ?
I can control Excel in any shape or form I want, but often get frustrated with formatting on Word docs !
The picture option can be ok but you can't change it once its there, whereas you can change the Excel spreadsheet within word. Note that you can also save the spreadsheet as a pdf and insert the pdf into Word as well.

Excel to Word
There is no easy way to do this that I am aware of.
As others have pointed out, you can use linking or embedding for transferring data between MS Office and other files but these will usually entail a certain amount of tweaking in the destination application.
You could set up macros to do this if you find that the whole process or destination formatting is repeatative.
Alternatively Excel has the facility to save sheets as PDFs (or use something like CutePDF) and there are utilities around that will convert PDFs into Word documents. You may want to try http://www.trulyfreeware.com/
Edit: Since writing the above site seems to have disappeared, a shame since it housed one of the best PDF to Word converters I have used. try http://www.freewaregenius.com/2010/03/06/how-to-convert-pdf-to-word-doc-... for some other examples.
Try Paste Special
I use Excel data in Word documents regularly and generally use one of two techniques. You will get to know which technique to use based on what you need to do with the data once it is in Word.
Both techniques require you to select the Excel data and then Copy. Go to Word and Choose Paste Paste Special.
Paste Special with Paste: Microsoft Office Excel Worksheet Object allows you to paste the Excel data as an Excel object effectively copied from the original worksheet and then to manipulate the pasted object as if it was an Excel worksheet. Data and formulae transfer from the worksheet. Any formatting can be carried out as if it was in Excel, but the data will remain as it was captured. Any change in the underlying data will not reach the pasted object.
Paste Special with Paste link: Microsoft Office Excel Worksheet Object allows you to paste the Excel data as a link to the Excel worksheet. Any changes in formatting needs to be done in the original worksheet BUT the benefit is that the data is linked so that any change in the underlying data will be reflected in the Word report.
Both techniques allow the image to be resized at constant ratio or horizontally and vertically separately. Position of the image can be used using Word tabs.
Hope that this helps
Covert Excel to Wurd
in Excel go to SaveAs and drop the file type box down to a web page or HTML file. Now use explorer to locate this file. Right click and select open with ( not open) and select Word , now in Word go SaveAs and drop down box and select Word file. Take the rest of the day off.
