CTA case study

I was wondering if anyone can enlighten me on this. I passed my final ACCA exams in 2007 which means I sat and passed old paper 3.6, this automatically rules me out for exemption for CTA case study paper. A colleague of mine recently told me that it is possible for me to take the new ACCA advance tax papers and claim exemption and he also told me that case study is an absolute nightmare.

Is it possible for me to sit new ACCA papers even though I have passed the old one?
