Didn't find your answer?

We have asked our accountant for all the documents he has relating to our vat returns. Our vat is straight forward so we will be doing it ourselves in future. the documents we have received are not ours, and belong to no one we know. Despite informing our accountant of this fact and now requesting all the paperwork/receipts etc that belong to us, nothing has been forthcoming and we feel that our accountant is avoiding our calls and not answering our emails. My question is, what are the implications of him sending us someone else's paperwork and receipts, and what will happen if has sent ours to another customer? We are all paid up to date and do not owe any money. Thanks, Tracy

Mistakes happen

Your accountant probably just put the records in the wrong envelope.  Send the other client's documents back to your accountant and ask again for your records.

If it was a straight switch, it should be quite straightforward.  The problem would be if he didn't send your records to the client whose records he sent to you.  He can then only wait for someone else to report that they have received the wrong records.
