Defer auto enrolment

time limit

Didn't find your answer?

Hi all,

Please can someone confirm that when you defer a staff member's autoenrolment you can only defer for 3 months?

I have an employee on a 6 month probationary period. Ideally I would like to defer the pension until after the 6 months have passed but from everything I've read they need to be enrolled after 3. Is this correct or have I missed something please?

No, you're correct - you can defer for any period up to 3 months, but not longer.

You can postpone them for up to three months alright. You still need to send them a letter though. Am I right to say that if they choose they can opt in or join the pension scheme?

Yes - I always defer for3 months as our employees have a 6 month probation period but you must still make it clear that they can opt in any time during that 3 months if they want to

Thanks for all the responses, it's what I thought.
The letter will be sent from Moneysoft which has the standard wording that you can ask to be enrolled so I'm covered in that respect.
