Do we treat payment to UBKA as an expense?

Hi,

My client, a sole director of a Limited Liability Company, has just paid almost £5000 to the UK Border agency as visa fees for securing his Indefinite leave to remain and that of 4 dependents. Can this be wholly treated as an expense?

Why?

Is it wholly and exclusively for the purpose of the business?  I wouldn't have thought so

Surely there are personal reasons why they want to stay too

I was thinking since the sole Director is the main applicant the sustainability of the business rest upon success of his application with the UKBA. As you rightly observed, some elements of personal reasons can be attributed to those of the dependents. Can we therefore apportion the expense, maybe 50%?
