Earlier Year Updates (EYU)

What to do

Didn't find your answer?

Hi everyone,

I have been looking online for some good guidance on this topic and I am hoping there is an easier way to deal with this.

My client who looks after their own payroll received a PAYE/NIC bill for 2014-15 tax year. As it turns out the bill is incorrect. The bill does not account for SMP Recovery for that year which clears the bill in full. The client inlcuded these details on the payroll software but for some reason this has not been transmitted to the RTI filings. I don't know if this was an issue with Iris Payroll software or with something at HMRC side of things, but bottom line is they need to refile EYU submissions now to fix the problem.

They no longer use Iris so cannot simply open up the software and refile. So my question is how do they go about it?

  1. If they download HMRC Basic Tools, do they need to re-enter the entire year's payroll again and submit? This would cover 25 to 30 weekly paid employees so hopefully not!
  2. Would Iris give them temporary access again to refile? Anyone know if they charge for temporary access?

Looking for the quickest and easiest way to refile the necessary figures, all advice greatly appreciated.

It's probably not an EYU they need to submit, but rather an EPS that shows the recoverable amounts.
You should be able to use HMRC BPT to submit an EPS.
