excel wildcard sort

Didn't find your answer?

Hello

I have a table of excel data, but I want to sort the customers wherever the name 'smith' appears in the cell. eg John Smith or Smithson.

I am thick, so please explain step by step. I use Excel 2007.

Thanks

If you set up your data as a table, there is heading for each column. For.eg, If John is your customer, I suspect, on the top of the column field, there is a "Customer" heading with an arrow. when you Click on the heading you should be able to see a drop lists of all names under "Customer". Untick all, and then tick the one you want. There is also a sort function by A-Z, or Z-A, but this sometimes mess up your data.
