FL MEMO - awful experience. Has anyone had the same problems?

FL MEMO - awful experience. Has anyone had the...

I was first contacted by FL Memo about 6 months ago.

After a 30 minute telephone conversation where i continually expressed that i had no need for their product they suggested that it was "a free no obligation trial" which i agreed to take...mainly to get rid of them.

After 1 month they contacted me to ask how i had found the service & i told them that i hadn't even opened the email with the trial info on or logged in.......they suggested that they extended it for 2 weeks further

At that point i received a book & an invoice through the post. I immediately picked up the phone to cancel....and they collected the book.

I received 2 more chaser requests for the invoice & each time i contacted FL Memo to tell them it wasn't due. Yesterday i got a legal letter...

Awful admin & excessively pushy. Has anyone else had similar issues?

FL Memo

Yes - similar experience.  Bought an employment law book once and found I was then on an annual update with costs!  Took a long time for them to agree that I had only ever ordered one stand alone book and that I hadn't ordered a continuous supply.

Never again will I take any product from them.

I have had the same experience as both of you - I will NEVER use them again - although their product did look decent

We bought both tax and employment law handbooks one year.  They were very good, but we don't need an update on employment law every year.  So, we went through the same arguments as everyone else and have never touched them since.

It's such a pity

Their material is very good indeed but their approach to sales is terrible.  They are so pushy.  I've practically had to put the phone down on them before now.

I still buy from them for the clarity of their material but I dread calls from their sales team - and that's not how to delight your customers.

Recently I came across DueDil.com and I now use it frequently for quick checks on companies.  Obviously, their sales approach has turned a lot of customers off.  I would not be too keen to pay in advance for anything.  Have a look at their accounts here:

Same for me

The sales techniques of these publishers has been the same for years and never fails to surprise me. There's this massive gap between who they're selling to (professionals) and who they seem to think they're selling to (morons). They all seem to be as bad as each other. What really hacks me off is that 'automatic renewal unless you notify us 3 months before the end of the current one' rubbish. Why do it? Why treat customers like this? I bet none of us would do this with clients.

They are a nuisance.

I purchased a book from them some 10-15 years ago and STILL I get hard sell tactics from them.

All they have achieved is to ensure that I would never deal with them again.

FL Memo and Indicator

Our firm had a similar experience ten years ago. Endless pushy sales calls and unsolicited books, each  accompanied by an invoice. Eventually I had to threaten them with solicitors to persuade them to cease and desist.

We have used Indicator products for more than twenty years an when the two businesses merged, I was sceptical but decided  to give them a chance.

Today I received an unsolicited book accompanied by an invoice. I regard this as sharp business practice and have written and told them so. If it happens again we will be ending our relationship.

My advice to others is proceed with caution and make sure that you are not paying for expensive books that you did not order..

FL Memo

I have just switched to the latest version of online fl memo and it is fine, I got a credit straight away for the previous service, and they sent a courier to collect the old books.  The three people on their telephone service have always been helpful when as a sole practictioner I needed help with issues.  If they were not available straight away they have always rung back. Salesmen are salesmen whatever you are looking at.

As a yorkshire man I tell them the way it is and they back off and accept that, perhaps one or two of you are pussies.   For around £600 a year I have access to technical information and a helpline, not to mention the additional benefit I derive by using it to schedule out my CPD for the AAT.   Previously I have paid around £700 a year for Mercia courses which were on the whole not of any use to the sole trader accountants business.
