Golf Club Accounts

I am an accounting student in my penultimate year at university.  Today I received a letter from my golf club which contained the annual reports of the club.  I found these reports interesting and would like to learn more about the financial operations of my golf club.  I was just wondering if anyone on here could let me know what kind of work a Finance Convener of a golf club does throughout the year?   I am considering contacting this person at my club to see if I could work alongside him in the summer, and would just like some advice on this idea.  What would this involve?  Would it be beneficial for an accounting student like myself?

Any information on this topic would be much appreciated!

Worth a try

I audit a few golf clubs and you certainly see a variety of income streams and all are treated in different ways!  Just remember golf clubs are different from the "real world" in that they are accountable to members and not shareholders and so the ethos of the business model is very different. That said, if you are looking for practical experience in the nuts and bolts of how bookkeeping works, then its as good as any place to start because of the variety and the potential exposure to Partially exempt VAT calculations, of which you don't see many in day to day practice.
