Heathrow third runway – economic boon?

Heathrow third runway – economic boon?

Didn't find your answer?

With the decision today to recommend a third runway at Heathrow Airport, the May government has arrived at a point its predecessors failed to.

Post-Brexit will it create a much needed boost to the UK economy?

If you’re embarking on major infrastructure project like this, what cost-benefit analysis would you carry out?

Should we expect more infrastructure spending in the Autumn Statement next month?

Is an economic boon at all like a damp squid?

Both of which can be enjoyed with an expresso while stating that you could care less.

Once again, the UK economy centres around the South East of the country.
The reality is, no political party has the balls to test the status quo and the Midlands, North, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are, once again, left with the crumbs from the table.
Although I won't hold my breath, I long for the Autumn statement to include serious investment in construction, which MAY form the start of a serious intent on recovery.
Many people have been fed a diet of promises, since the banks created the situation which has persisted since 2007/2008 and; many public services and "servants" have paid a very high price.
In the Autumn of my life I have very little but contempt for; the majority of our politicians and all of the banking fraternity.

Supposed to mean a big boost for regional airports as a result of it.

I am not holding my breath though.

What's the point in being open for business when the planet won't support it? Fracking, stifling renewables business, 400 ppm CO2, my grandkids will blame my generation.

The proposed tax on frequent flyers (who let's face it are the root cause of the problem here) would be much better for the environment etc. , but of course that may not attract votes and votes is what it's all about at the end of the day with these people.

I love how govt make a huge song and dance - then come up with the idea everyone first thought of.

Apparently the whole country benefits? Now, here in Glos I am only a couple of hours from Heathrow - but even that is a bit of a pig.

Surely Birmingham could be used more?

Still - apparently it is unlikely to ever happen.

The big impact of this announcement apparently is that Goldsmith has resigned as an MP - only in order to be re-elected in a few months time. What is the point of that?

The foreign owners are very happy at the boost in profits and capital value they will get as a result.

Why anyone thought it was a good idea to sell blue chip assets overseas I don't know.

No.

I was shocked that the british tax payer is paying £5bn for what is a private business operation.

Far more sensible to make Brum a big hub, take a lot of traffic off the roads in the SE.

It must be good for the economy; especially if you sell double glazing in the South of England...

Oi!
hands off Brum...
I left my home town for the leafy coalfields of North Warwickshire to escape all them planes. Now JLR have planted a storage depot on my backyard. All those Range Rovers stored at Baddesley pit... and you southerners want to extend Brum Airport (sorry Sheldon South) which would have to go over Solihull.

Sounds good to me!

Actually, good idea. Bring it on

From what I gather if you are near Heathrow it is a requirement, one of the main arguments against.
