If I used software do I need a 64-8?

If I used software do I need a 64-8?

Didn't find your answer?

This might sound like a daft question to many but for all my existing clients I use HMRC's software for SA100 and consequently I have a 64-8 in place for all.  I have received a couple of last minute desperate requests following the round of warning letters from HMRC sent out last week but I don't have a 64-8 in place.  The jobs aren't complex but I'm concerned that I don't have time to wait for a 64-8 to be processed if I am to meet the 31 January deadline.

Would commercial software enable me to submit a return without a 64-8 being in place as long as I have an agent ID?  ANy help here much appreciated.

Mine does

I can't speak for other packages but PTP's tax platform certainly allows it.  Quite a few of my clients don't appear on my client list despite having submitted a 64-8, but as I've always used commercial software this has never stopped me submitting.

Yes

It would. Has been possible to submit for clients not on your list since around Oct 2009 as I recall.

Thanks everyone

Thanks for the answers.  It's quite reassuring that I can get around the problems I'm currently faced with.  I'd thought of just getting them to pay the tax but I'd rather get the returns submitted as well.
