is Job Seeker's allowance taxable?

I'd be grateful if anybody could clarify if Job Seeker's allowance is taxable. DWP staff didn't know, but mentioned there seems to be a difference between the contribution element and income element? (I got the impression that contribution element and income element make up the allowance)....but not clear if taxable or not!

any comments appreciated

yes
Your client can ask for a statement from his job centre for the total amount of taxable benefit received in the tax year. the first six months are contribution based thereafter it is income based but I think that you will find it is all taxable.

Sometimes
As you say, it depends on the circumstances.

This page from HMRC's manuals may help ...
