ixbrl problems

ixbrl problems

Didn't find your answer?

What do other accountants recommend for ixbrl.  I use sage accounts production, i only have 5 ltd companies.  I pay about £400 for support which i only use really for the ltd company accounts.  I had to get a new computer last year as it needed a 64 bit computer.  Now the new sage says there is not enough ram on this new computer and also sage will not support windows 7 home only windows 7 professional  The whole ixbrl thing is getting past a joke, software and hardware costs.  How difficult is it to use the inland revenue software?  How do you tag existing accounts??

Replace Sage with VT
Cheaper, quicker and more user-friendly. iXBRL is a doddle with VT.

Comprehensive accounts

For straightforward and logical input, and a reasonable price, you could have a look at Comprehensive Accounts.

Not so bad when you're used to it....

I act for forty eight Ltd Companies, thirteen of which are either dormant or property management companies such that they don't need to file at HMRC. For the remainder, I use HMRC's software which isn't so bad once you're used to it. I can now file the full CT600, accounts and computations in about twenty minutes. I don't use it to file at Companies House though. Hope that helps.

.

I think thats a SAGE problem not an iXBRL problem!

They really are a complete joke.

For cheap use VT and you can file in about 20 seconds not 20 minutes!

I use VT Final Accounts software as I only have a few clients.  It is pretty good. I didn't have any accounts software before I purchased VT, and I was fed up with trying to use HMRC Accounts software in the CT600 as it was so user-unfriendly!

VT every time

VT is user friendly and sensibly priced.

I act for 60+ limited companies and have not had a single glitch when filing VT's iXBRL accounts along side the CT600, and neither have I had any iXBRL accounts rejected by HMRC.

HMRC website

I have used HMRC filing for a while now. No problems you can't fudge your way round, it takes about 30 mins - 1 hour to do and its free.

too heavy!

Having an interest in the more IT side of things, if you have a desktop you could quite easily purchase and fit an extra bit of RAM. Do you know how much you have in your machine at the moment? (On windows 7 go to control panel, system and security, and under system you can click on View amount of RAM and processor speed). Probably pick up another gig or so for £20-£30 last time I looked.

Having said that, if you have a windows 7 machine, it should be fairly decent spec for running accounts packages. I think the sage stuff has all been rushed out recently, our last upgrades have spent ages downloading various net things from Microsoft. It seems they haven't thought about trying to get it to work on machines that aren't upgraded every year.

Try the VT or even HMRC stuff, probably work a lot better, we have VT which works fine on the majority 5 years old plus machines on xp.

iXBRL managed tagging services

If you aren't sure about using software. You can always choose an iXBRL managed tagging service provider. You just have to send your files and service providers will take care of iXBRL conversion for you.

ixbrl

In my experience, for small companies SAGE is overpriced and overrated.

VT by comparison is excellent, reasonably priced and comes with a tagging arrangement that is simple to use or, as Shirley M posted, a doddle!

Lots of problems experienced at a fiirm that I work at with Sage & iXBRL filings - at times it seems like hardly a week goes by without some issue arising - here's one from last week:

" Error code 3314 Inconsistent duplicate fact values "

Mirror codes not applied/check entered dates on iXBRL accs package so have go through the following idiotic and time-consuming proceedure in Sage accounts:

1 Open up Accounts Production

2 Reports

3 NL reports

4 Mirror Code Listing

5 Preview

6 Print out list

then ...

7 Nominals

8 Edit (each of individual listed codes)

9 Reapply mirror code

and try again to submit accounts & CT600 to HMRC online.

Experiences like the above put one off using commercial Software and instead muddle through with HMRC's also flawed alternative.

I can best sum up SAGE Accounts Production and iXBRL software by simply saying "I personally wouldn't use even if it was free" (in my own small accounting practice).

Cheapskates like me use HMRC

Free, works fine, no problems, and files to Companies House at same time, and you get feedback about it having been submitted ... OK so I only use it for about 25 clients, and it's almost certainly faster to use something like VT, but I use Excel for everything, and find that I can link my info straight into HMRC's online offering without any hassles at all, so why bother shelling out more money? Oh, and I am a cheapskate cheapjack skinflint of an accountant (you know the type, the one who reuses unfranked stamps).

I can honestly say Sage 50, 200, and Accounts Production are terrible packages, they are overpriced and overly-complex.

I am  massive advocate of VT transaction + and VT Final Accounts (it's just an Excel Add in, which is always nice.)

Unless you're utterly smitten by Sage, then I would stay well clear.  As a DB it's good for stock control etc, but from an accounting point of view it is just a popular program that has overtaken the market.

I think I'm only echoing what others are saying anyway - so I will stop there.

HMRC

I spent a year not coming to grips with PTP accounting software and have now started to use the HMRC software. It is a bit clunky but much better than I expected. It is free too! Life's too short to stuff a mushroom. I have much better things to do with my time than faff around with tagging or learning new software. My time is too valuable to waste it on unbillable time.
