Mayan accounting error?

Mayan accounting error?

It seems that the world has not come to an end today on 21 December 2012 - as was widely predicted based on the Mayan calendar.

According to Dr Geoffrey Braswell of the University of California (quoted by the BBC):

"The 2012 phenomenon is essentially an accounting problem; a misinterpretation of some very ancient book keeping".

Just goes to show that whatever happens - or doesn't - its the accountants wot gets the blame!

Happy Christmas y'all.

The world may not have ended

yet, but neither has December 21st.  Particularly in South America - it won't finish in Mexico City until 6 am tomorrow GMT.

Did the prediction say that the world would end on the beginning of 21 December?

And if it does end at Midnight in Mexico, does that mean that it's only that part of the world where it is stil 21 December will end?  That the rest of us will continue as normal (apart from watching American football or taking holidays in Peru, of course?

;-)

Comet

Some people think the world will end when earth is hit by a comet.

I think the Mayan's were just predicting the end of Comet and it got lost in translation somewhere!

Today I will witness destruction on a mass scale like never before, rioting, fires and to end it all many many deaths.

No, not the end of the world, just another day in Bradford :)

My company has just bought a buisness down in Bradford after visiting I now know what you mean.

It looks like I am going to have to finish these 2 tax returns now that the world has not ended and its looking

like the money I spent on that Ark in my back garden is also wasted.

@ Glennzy – Bradford sadly is

@ Glennzy – Bradford sadly is grim. Most of the shops are boarded up, the remaining shops are bookies, pound shops and banks. However, there is one busy little spot … the bus stop that takes you to Leeds. I work in Leeds, shop in Leeds and I now find myself house hunting in Leeds. If only Bradford had invested in its infrastructure when it’s textile trade was at its height. However, there a few household names based in Bradford, Morrisons / Hallmark / Thomas Cook, may be Bradford is investable to businesses afterall?

Your ark - don't sacrafice your Turkey just yet, you may need it. Albeit you will need another.

5th April / 31st March

The UK has an Income Tax  tax year end of 5th April (rather than 31st March) because of an error of computing days/dates many centuries ago...

...so maybe the predicted event is to occur on 26th December.

I am just wondering

if the Mayan calculators were prone to the Y2K bug.

@MRME89

Yes we Bought the Victoria hotel and are currently refurbishing it. Its going well and the building is fantastic. Its unfortunate having a big city like Leeds "next door" as they appear to have received the lions share of the cash over last 10 years. We were going to open up a high end cocktail bar, but after a Thursday night out In Bradford it was only Witherspoon style bars that had anyone in them we had to curtail our plans.HMRC & Santander must be Bradfords biggest employers.

You are forgetting the numerous pawnbrokers and allied trades, also Provident Financial (doorstep loans to the poor) are head-quartered in Bradford as I recall, although it has been a few decades since I lived there.

@Zebaa

Thats the very fella and thanks for the plug. Thats the new website we have just put up as we bought the hotel out of Administration in September. I must say the council and local business people have been very helpful with us and are grateful for the investment we have made in the city. We certaintly have not had the headaches with planning and licencing we experience elsewhere. We also sponser the mighty Bradford City Football club. The local newspaper has also very helpful and keen to promote a positive story unlike the NOTW style rubbish that had become popular over thelast 5 years or so.
