MTD - Practice Excellence webinar = excellent...

I've just attended the live webinar.

Didn't find your answer?

... and found it to be instructive but I still cant see how we are going to cope. Annual returns every 3 months and only a month to do it in.

Rebecca said to make clients aware now but I dont think I dare - they will just want to know the detail which I cant give them.

This afternoon is another webinar which will hopefully go into this question in more detail.

I would suggest that all staff listen in - not just the partners.

Exactly how are we to get client to comply - if, of course we still have clients. Those who are landlords via letting agents will do it themselves - those who are CIS will do it themselves - those who are under £10 will do it themselves.

See article: HMRC has a dream.

I too listened in. I partly agree with you in that there is no way we can start talking to clients properly until we get more detail.
I also agree that the biggest problem is getting clients on board.
However I do see this as an opportunity to become more efficient, and I do not really understand why you think you will not cope, to my mind it means doing smaller amounts of work more regularly rather than the big push in January.
Once the clients are properly setup (and I accept that is a big problem) I see my job becoming easier.

All I have done is very briefly mention it to clients at the annual meeting to plant the seed there.

We have too little information to have a meaningful conversation with the 'bag of receipts' clients, and might as well just wait until HMRC have made their decision.

It's ridiculous to start from April 2018 when in October 2016 they are still asking for responses to the consultation.

I attended HMRC's webinar yesterday. Very much a PR exercise, during which they ignored the tough questions.

Our office manager, who concentrates more on accounts than tax, sat in with me. Hithertoo he hasn't paid much attention, and he walked away afterwards convinced that HMRC have no idea what they are doing, how business operates, and the burden that this will place on business.

If HMRC can turn a former agnostic to a fully fledged against in a one hour webinar, what hope for them convincing the whole population?
