New phishing email putporting to be from HMRC

Just seen a new version of what would seem to be a new email phishing attempt re payments to HMRC.

It suggests that there is a problem with the Santander Bill Payment system, but the links to HMRC contained in the email actually link to a mailbot.

It has been reported to HMRC and I will be happy to be proved wrong...... but I don't think I am

[EDIT] sorry missed the other thread re this!

I am not sure...

I don't think this is a scam as a client has had huge problems this morning with Bill Pay - see 'Is this pukka?'...

Be that as it may

Possibly but it is actually linking to an address registered in Basingstoke & nothing to do with HMRC.

Like I said, if I'm wrong then fine, but is has a very nasty niff to me & I would treat it with a VERY large pinch of salt and look for another payment method than use the link.

Yeah just had the same email too

It looks convincing enough as I cannily links to the HMRC website. But tellingly, the address is http:\\ and not a secure https:\\ and sadly many may fall for it.

Yes

There IS a problem with the Santander payment system.  Whether that email is legit or someone taking advantage of the fact, I didn't bother to find out.  But the subject is a true one.

It may even be genuine

The domain is registered to Bang Communications Ltd who are listed as a supplier by the Government Procurement Service.

Assuming this is genuine there must be a way to communicate that doesn't send us all into a panic over dodgy emails

What strike rate

......Do these emails have.

It always amuses me when you get the old random email from the Presidents of Nigeria brother who out of all the billion email addresses available has selected me to look after his half million pound petty cash until he comes over on his holidays.

Whilst they are ridiculous you seem to see an endless stream of people on watchdog and the like that get duped this way.

They must make money otherwise they wouldnt do it.
