New Zealand tax return

Filing from the UK

Didn't find your answer?

Hi all

I have a client who owns a property in New Zealand that is let out.

They file a NZ tax return via a firm of accountants in NZ, but they are not happy with their services.

My question is whether anyone in the UK currently files NZ tax returns on behalf of clients.

If so, would you say the process of filing the tax return is straightfoward?

I am currently researching it, but I thought I would ask opinions on here as well.

As ever, many thanks for your input!

I am no expert but isn't New Zealand rather like Australia in that you have to go through a registration process to be a tax agent (i.e. be a member of a particular institute or have a certain level of experience, go through a vetting process, have a minimum number of clients etc)? In other words you can't just apply for a code and start filing, like we do in this country.

plus a whole different set of rules will apply.
I had any clients in the past with Australian income who had losses there but profit here, or vice versa, as they could claim different costs and no doubt New Zealand is the same.
I think you should be looking for recommendations for a New Zealand accountant or examining why they are not happy with the service. If it is just that they get a different answer to you that is not necessarily wrong
