NI ON Charitable event

Do you pay NI on Chritable event open to staff and suppliers

Didn't find your answer?

Hi

I have been asked what happens NI and VAT wise if we hold a golf day (Charitable event)that is open to staff, suppliers and contractors and the suppliers and contractors have to make a donation to attend that will then be paid to a charity?

I have looked on HMRC but it is only clear if you are a charity organising the event , we are not a charity we are a company.

Thanks

Zena

Not being funny but if you are a company making pre-tax profits of £2.6m (year to March 2016) and (apparently) an associate of a FTSE 100 company, do you not have access to paid for tax advice?

Hi

I have not asked the shareholder tax department as it takes weeks to get an answer on anything!

Thanks

If you "have to make a donation", it's no longer a donation. It's an entry fee.

The question has been wrongly posed. What the real position is that for those suppliers or contractors who make a donation to charity[not to you !], they are entitled to a free golf day. If that doesn't feel right, what about a souvenir brochure and inviting contractors/suppliers to advertise.
The problem regardless of which route you use is that this would be entertaining so that the costs would be disallowable for CT !
