I have a client who is a contractor (sole director, Ltd company) who rather than pay for a hotel each night he stays away, has rented a house for the period of the contract and then comes home at weekends.
I believe that employees are able to claim £5 a night when working away from home to cover personal incidental expenses such as for laundry,newspaper without receipts. Is he still able to claim this if he is renting accomodation? Also he has not claimed for any evening meals, this seems logical in that he is able to feed himself in his rented house like he would if he was as at home but then if he was in a hotel he would be able to claim for eating in the hotel restaurant every night, so is this fair?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
