PAYE Online

PAYE Online

Didn't find your answer?

OK, after filing EYU's for a couple of years for a client last week, I'm trying to reconcile the payment position, and used PAYE. Lo and behold, HMRC have an interest charge recorded against month 7 (not due yet), and cracking the month open, the total in the summary does not match the breakdown.

I despair.

I may be being a bit naive here but I cannot see payment records as you describe for PAYE, VAT or CIS through my agent access to client's information, so I am assuming that you are looking at information that is accessed through your client's own registrations, perhaps using their log in details, with their permission.

If this is the case then I always understood that HMRC do not recommend this as such access could be treated as unauthorised and this is the reason why I have never done this, although I do not believe this is illegal.

In practice, however, despite the Government trying their best to sideline Accountants, we can do our jobs better if we have access to all relevant information related to our clients.

Can anyone throw a bit more light on gaining access to account information for clients in this way and if anyone has ever had any problems with it.

Two things. HMRC themselves will admit payments made/due/ allocated bear no relation to the truth.
Secondly for Tornados info, an agent can be authorised to access clients accounts/payments. Sometimes, especially if you have old clients an outdated authorisation ( as in paper FB1) in place this only allows partial access. To gain full access you have to go through the online registration process again. Then long password issued to client who in turn advises you.
