PAYE payment schedules

PAYE payment schedules

Didn't find your answer?

Client company receives PAYE overpayment notification re 2010/11 asking for agreement from Cumbernauld.

Simple case - 12 payments of £125 made during the year plus a little Class 1A, but overpayment of £390, which doesn't make sense.

HMRC website says write to Accounts Office for payments schedule.

Write to accounts office requesting payment schedule.

Received snotty letter from HMRC saying that taxpayers are expected to keep their own record of payments and asking for a list of payments made so that they can review them.

Replied saying that this was not helpful as they had written to me asking for agreement of overpayment but that I couldn't do that without the information they are holding but won't supply.  Asked for repayment of overpayment as couldn't help further to identify reason for overpayment.

Receive phone call from HMRC again asking for information of payments made.  Pointed out to them that they already have the information of payments made on their system, which were simply 12 x £125.  Said that if they could provide me with a list of payments made then we could identify the reason for the overpayment and resolve the matter.  They said that they no longer provide payment schedules as taxpayers are expected to keep their own record of payments made.  I said that the taxpayer does have a record - thank you.  I pointed out that there was no way I could help further so please make repayment of the overpayment shown.  They then said that it looked possible that re-allocations could be causing the apparent overpayment, or perhaps payments for another tax by the same client, or perhaps by another client!    This is nonsense and a waste of time.  I believe that there are plans to make this information available online, as it is for SA and CT.  It can't happen soon enough.

It's not going to happen

Many of us have been asking for the PAYE account to be available online in the same way as SA and CT, but it emerged a year or so ago that HMRC were concentrating on RTI and would not waste time on providing this facility for just a year or two until RTI is introduced.

You know if people actually cared about anything other than Harry Redknapp and Carlos Tevez in this country this sort of story would be a major scandal. Now, I love my football as much as the next person, 40 years supporting West Ham, yer I know, send some sympathy my way, but priorities please. I did joke to my wife that they'd be Sky Sports News 1, following 'Arry and Sky Sports News 2 following Carlos Tevez.
