Royal Dutch Shell 'Scrip' dividends taxable?

Change to tax treatment of the RDS Scrip dividends after June 2014? Now taxable?

Didn't find your answer?

I am struggling to determine whether I should declare my clients Royal Dutch Shell (RDS) 'Scrip' dividends on his UK tax return for 2015-16.  He holds B shares and receives A shares in place of a cash dividend (I appreciate that holding A shares is possibly not a good thing for a UK taxpayer).  The 'Scrip Dividend Statement' still describes these as 'Scrip Dividends' but I was under the impression that the RDS Scrip dividend programme, under which the dividends were not taxable, was cancelled after June 2014 and that new shares are now issued under an Automatic Dividend Reinvestment Programme if the shareholder has elected to do so.  Consequently, that the 'Scrip' dividends became taxable after June 2014, in which case I am confused that they are still being called 'Scrip' dividends.  The only confirmation that I can find on this point is an article on the Barclays Stockbrokers website:

https://help.stockbrokers.barclays.co.uk/help/event-processing/royaldutc...

All other information seems to suggest that they are Scrip dividends and so not taxable but I am fairly sure that this has changed.  Does anyone have more detailed knowledge of this specific investment?  Any help would be appreciated.
