SA Penalty Notices

SA Penalty Notices

How many of you have received SA penalty notices. Yesterday we received 10. These had all either been filed (receipts held) or those who didn't have to fill them in.

300 clients, 10 (and that was just yesterday) equates to 3%. Mirror that all over the country.

This results in irate clients, explaining the situation and then appealing - time, time and more time.

I just hate HMRC. Not helped by the Digitalisation initiative announced today going onwards in April so payers can "cut out" the accountant by uploading info and God knows what. What have HMRC got against agents and accountants

Imagine the chaos. Well yes. We can imagine it and this will take more hours to sort.

Am I a grouch?

Received lots

Got a bundle yesterday. All valid though - all the no-shows or can't be bothered.

Must admit

In all the years of online SA, I have never had a penalty notice when a return had been submitted.

'Those who didn't have to fill them in'.  Trickier area, bet they all have UTRs and HMRC will say they issued them with a notice to complete. If they have a UTR get a 64-8 in and then you can check if a tax return/notice to complete has been issued (and the date that it was issued).

I will be interested to hear if this is a general problem, but as far as I am concerned I have no complaints.

Just as an add on these weren't last gasp submissions, but done mid way through the year

We had one

the other day. Return submitted 11th  January and submission receipt received. Annoying! Mind you, that's the first time that has happened to us.

Duplicated records?

Always worth checking with these ones that client doesn't have duplicated SA records set up with different UTRs.

Had a few of these over the years.

Penalties I've received this year are all valid.
