HMRC call

Didn't find your answer?

How many times have you rung HMRC to give them information, and been met with "We don't have authority on file, and so can't discuss it"? A few? Me too!

So this felt good. Just had a call from HMRC in respect of a client, but they actually wanted the director and seemed taken aback when I said we are the accountants. I asked what it was in connection with, hoping to be helpful, to be met with "We don't have a 64-8 so I can't discuss it with you".

He ummed and ahhd for a minute, and then said "Would you have a number for the director?"

My reply, "I'm sorry, without a 64-8 you can't take information from me".

It felt so satisfying.

Revenge is a dish best eaten cold.

You probably didn't realise it at the time but you struck a blow for us all

You should have pretended to be the automated voice at the beginning:

"Would you have a number for the director?"

"That's, help with flat rate scheme, is that right?"

Arghhhh
