Setting up a PAYE Schem

How long does it take to come through.

Didn't find your answer?

I applied for a few PAYE schemes about 3 weeks ago and got nothing through yet.

How long do they normally take to come through

I set one up on Wednesday and got the reference on Saturday! Though usually it's about a week.

How did you apply ?

Structured email seems to be quickest.

About a week is my recent experience when set up by structured eMail.
In an instance where after a month I'd received no references (suspect: client not passing them on) I 'phoned HMRC to obtain them.

Normally it takes about a week. If it has gone on longer than that I would contact HMRC. I normally get an email to say they have received the application with an hour sending a structured email to HMRC, and an email to say that the references have been sent in the post about 2 days after the initial application

We phone HMRC and register the scheme on the call, with the PAYE Ref and Accounts Office Ref confirmed back to us at the same time.

It's quicker and you don't have to wait for the client to pass you the confirmation letter!

Update

Both schemes have come through today.
I had just applied through Agent Portal "registering for a new tax"

Will have to start this structured email lark as it seems its the future.
