Hi folks,
I am about to start a tax enquiry case for a client. This is outside my normal engagement letter terms and that letter states that a separate engagement letter with its own specific terms would be issued for other works such as HMRC enquiries.
Anyone got a template they would like to share?
Or any pointers on specific terms that should be in there?
I am aiming to quote a price which covers up to a certain point in the enquiry - e.g. collating all info/documents for first reply, dealing with a 2nd and 3rd reply to queries, a meeting with HMRC inspector to review books/info/documents, a 2nd meeting to deal with queries/issues - then quoting perhaps a fixed hourly rate for anything outside of that.
This will give me a chance to ask for at least 50% payment upfront too. Any thoughts on this approach?

CCAB Guidance
Here's the ACCA http://www2.accaglobal.com/archive/accauk2/articles/factsheets/144.pdf.
I have ICEAW & CIOT on my computer in word format which is easier to cut & paste. If you can't find on their respective websites if you message me with your email I will send copies to you.
Regular payments
You need a substantial payment in advance before you commence any work. After that, monthly billing is essential, as costs to the client can easily escalate. It is a pity that the client apparently does not have fee protection insurance. Most clients have no idea of the costs that an enquiry will involve
