Tax relief on amortisation

Tax relief on amortisation

Didn't find your answer?

STUPID MOMENT, please can someone clarify.

I thought CT relief was ALL gone on amort. But now I am reading that if goodwill was acquired before 8/7/15 then it's OK to carry on claiming forever? I am talking genuine purchase of g/w not an incorp.

But for incorps AFTER 3/12/14 no more CT relief on incorp.

Am I wrong so?

So

1) Client company YE March 2016 - bought a business and  writing off amort. CAN claim CT relief

2) ME - my incorp was before Dec 14 so I can keep claiming too?

Thank you

Here is a link to a very useful article on this subject, things have changed several times over the past 10 years or so...

For tax relief purposes each Goodwill acquisition has to be looked at to ascertain:
(a) When acquired
(b) If acquired from a related party

I have some clients that have both some Goodwill amortisation that is tax allowable and some that it not.
