would appreciate some guidance - we have a new client who has an arrangement to act as a uk vat agent for a non-uk/eu swiss trader. They receive a C79 for each import and claim the input vat. They raise a vat sales invoice for the output vat and the swiss trader transfers money to the client to offset any net vat payable. I have read the vat guidance but it's not clear about the paperwork required for the arrangement whereby the agent effectively acts as a principal for vat purposes according to the vat guidance on import/export. The client has already had a vat visit so the arrangement has been reviewed but the officer didnt help the client on paperwork required to back up the arrangement. Would welocme any comments on the practical arrangements ie paper trail, of uk vat agents acting for non-uk traders.
