Lost?

The UTR will be on every communication they have ever received from the Revenue - they cannot have lost every single one of them over the years.

UTR

If the clients have signed a 64-8, then HMRC whould provide it to you.

Also, if HMRC have processed the form properly, you should then be able to access a list of your clients through the 'Tax agents and advisers' section on the HMRC website. the UTRs will be on there.

I've been told lots of times that a UTR isn't something HMRC can give out over the 'phone, presumably in case some evil person tries to pay the client's tax for them!

Phone requests

they won't give out UTRs over the phone, but they will usually provide them in a letter to the agent.

Ahh ok, that's true.  Though it is mildly annoying to have to wait after I've cleared security.
