What does "Limited authorisation" mean on PAYE agent dashboard?

What does "Limited authorisation" mean?

Didn't find your answer?

I've already posted to Any Answers today but it hasn't been displayed. It looks like it's time to move on but I'll give them to the end of the day.

My PAYE for employers client list has "Limited authorisation" against a lot of of my clients. HMRC are not answering the phone and when I do a search I get no useful information.

Can anybody tell me what "Limited authorisation" means and how I can get "Unlimited authorisation?

I realised what went wrong with my earlier post. I previewed it but didn't see anything else I could do. Now I realise after previewing I need to edit it. Why can't there just be a Post button - not too big, please?

Hi Peter
Good to finally meet you the other day.
The only time I have heard of limited authorisation is when I contracted a tax specialist in to support an ongoing inquiry. His 64-8 gave him limited authorisation to correspond with elements of the case, but mine was still in place for everything else. Not sure how it would apply in your circumstances unless you have filing access rights but client has access to other information.

Glennzy
I look forward to seeing you next week at the meeting after the Accountex first day.
I am not sure what the situation is as I have online authorisation for all my clients but maybe not all FBI2s. I phoned HMRC re one client and they asked for online authorisation despite already having it. Why don't HMRC have a pop up bubble to explain what it means? They seem to do them for more obvious things.

It means HMRC claim not to have received the electronic authorisation code for that client. It shows this even if they have a 64-8. In desperation, I filed an FBI2 for one client and that seemed to resolve the problem, but I also tried the same thing for my own business, and it didn't work.

Thank you for the comments. What you say seems to be the case but there's no logic to it. If there's a problem with FBI2 why should they say they need it before talking to me. They also seem to be happy to give me tax code updates, etc.
It seems more to be a technique to rease when they dont know how to resolve a problem. A kind of delaying tactic.

Hi Peter
It seems to be a glitch because not all screens are not updated at the same time.
I opened a new scheme, set up online authorisation, and then it showed limited etc. There is a link under can't find client to ask online services to correct your status

I have same question, whether 64-8 or FBI2 which one gives Limited Authorisation.
