Month 1 or cumulative tax code?

Was the tax code previously operated on a Month 1 basis - indicated on the payslip as M1 or X or * after the number - and has now been changed onto the cumulative basis?  If so, pay and tax from a previous employment in this tax year may have been included.  You can check this by adding the December gross pay and tax figures to the YTD figures on the November payslip and see if they agree with the YTD figures on the December payslip.

Were you unemployed at the start of the tax year ?

Or have you had a pay rise ?
