I have understood in the past that if one were to work for the United Nations, the UK is one of the member states where this income is tax free. I can't however find anything online or through any HMRC manual that explains this officially. Did I just dream it?

SI 1974 no. 1261
I think that SI 1974 No. 1261 is still in force. Have a look at article 16(b).
Working for the United Nations abroad - tax exempt?
Further to the answer above, does this apply if one is working as a contractor/consultant overseas with the UN?
Hi,
Have you got an answer to your question?
I'm a consultant about to work for UN (in Spain) as a contractor and I would like to know whether "Tax Exemption" applies or not in this case scenario
thanks in advance

HMRC and UN consultant
About to file a tax return for HMRC.. worked last year at the UN based in one African country and travelling to others - only spend 32 nights in UK - wanted to know my tax status as a sole trader? many thanks!
I love this question, however I am an expat (Canada) living in Spain, working as a UN consultant.
I have received mixed feedback. Is a UN consultant required to pay taxes on UN earnings.
Does anyone have documents to share?
Many thanks
