Accountancy Journal

Accountancy Journal

Didn't find your answer?

I have been advised to read an Accountancy Journal which should help me with my exams. I do read my student ACCA but can anyone recommend any others?

Many thanks
Debbie

Accountancy age
I got a free subscription to accountancy age when I qualified, I wish I'd had it when I was taking P1 (professional accountant) as I found it much more focussed than the broadsheets (obviously).

For P2 we were told to keep an eye on the iasb website as that was where the current issues were. It was fairly easy to dip in and out of.

I would go for the website and accountancy age - also keep an eye on this website as I pick up so many useful tips from it too.

Good luck

Accountancy Journal
Rachel, in response to your question the exam that I read a comment recommending students to read an Accountancy Journal was for Paper P2 - Corporate Reporting.

They're all hopeless. FT on a Saturday is OK for background business stuff, that's the only thing that was slightly helpful for my exams.

I say read the FT
If you want to gain some perspective on business in the broad then read the FT.

If you want to always remain a bean counter - don't.

As regards being directly useful for exams ... Probably the student magazines?

Accountancy Mag is OK. Full of job adverts and expensive subs.

Accountancy Age. Ditto. Try and get the electronic version - should be free for you. Its a mix of 'news' and jobs.

ACCA's members mag was oh so dull last time I saw it.

Got to agree with Glen and Andy on this one
Although, personally, I would disagree with Glen on the FT issue: can't see that the time spent reading the FT is going to give you real payback in the exams.

Being told to read an accountancy journal is just like being given a reading list at the start of year at university: only the swots aiming for a First Class will do that (and much more besides). The rest of us, happy just to pass, read the bits we need and then go out for a beer.

In my opinion, you need to preserve what little "me" time you've got left without worrying about extraneous reading.

Which exams?
Obviously you mean ACCA ones, but which papers? For tax, taxwise for more advanced tax or the basic Tolley's Tax Guide (correct year following) are very good. For accountancy then I don't think any current reading will particularly help. For general business and economics I don't think you can beat the Economist - I had to read the Financial Times and Economist at university and I must say the Economist was altogether more digestable than the massive pile of FT's that always built up in the corner.
