I am looking for a mid range accounting software package capable of synchronisation between sites.

Package must have

Stock module
Job costing module
Accounting modules

For example I want to

- Download masterfile data from Head Office to branch

- Upload daily transactions from Branch to Head Office.

Can anybody help

Pastel Partner 2004 has: -

Stock module
Job costing module
Accounting modules

It has a SQL back-end, making it robust and quick.

You can configure import and export routines to handle the standard files you describe.

If you wish to go multi-site, Pastel is also capable of coping with this.

It is also supplied as standard with multi-currency and multi-company if this is a requirement.

Cost wise, it starts at around £600 for a single user (plus VAT and support).

I would need some more detail off you to decide if Pastel fully meets your needs, but with 300,000 businesses worldwide using this package, I am sure it can meet your requirements.

Access - Dimensions Lite
Gerry,

Obviously without a fuller understanding of number of sites, users, data download reqs. and existing/planned network infrastructure its difficult to propose a single package or solution.

However, you might want to consider Access Accounting's Dimensions Lite, which operates on Microsoft's free version of SQL server MSDE for upto 5 users. Together with their Dimensions.Net product, which provides web browser based access to current business information with the ability to perform data entry on tailored entry screens. Dimensions.Net can operate with essentially an unlimited number of concurrent users. Alternatively, Dimensions can be deployed over Citrix and Terminal Services enabling you to establish those Head Office<>branch relationships as an ASP environment.

This modular based system includes Stock and Job costing ( a key strength) in addition to pre-requisite core Accounting modules.

What will the system do, please?
Yes, as Daniel says, can you tell us what your company does, and give a bit more background on what you want the system to do?

In particular, are you looking for a manufacturing system with bills of material etc?

The answer is, "of course". Some questions from us would be

1 many applications will have the three components you ask for, but what is key elements within those that are a must for your business - back-to back SOP to POP, etc

2 what type of business are you trying to support, and how many concurrent users are there. There are some excellent vertical products as well as excellent installs of more standards products...

3 why are you not 'permanently logged in'. An always on virual private network will only cost about £50 per month. No downloads, no updates, no errors. Real time, live in both places. We do this all the time for country to country, office to office, Director home to office, etc. Is there a reason why you want off-line updating

4 what sort of budget do you have - 1K, 5K, 50K, 500K - as that will obviously impact the options open to you

If you wish for some assistance, please get in contact. Yes we have solutions, but there is not enough information to see if any are of use

We have such a system
Our software package, Khaos Control, has stock control, job costing and accounting modules, amongst others. It also has in-built synchronisation as used by our largest customer to sync accounting and other data between seven depots and their head office.

Single Software licence rather than multiple sites
You should select a software package that suits your business and/or industry needs.

Multiple site synchronisation is about deployment and introduces a level of complexity you can avoid.

You can deploy a single implementation at our managed data centre or at your HO (if you want to manage the comms and security yourself) and provide a connection to the software from anywhere through a secure VPN.

You will save yourself a lot of money by:-
1. only buying 1 site licence of the software
2. implementing it only in one place
3. managing and supporting the application at one site rather than many

but most important of all - you will have CONTROL over how the remote site users process data in the application.

We've done this many times for different clients with different accounting applications.

You might like to take a look at Encore from Anagram
Encore from Anagram Systems will certainly enable you to set branches up real time, over a vpn. Would need to know more details on what the business is and what you are trying to achieve. Handles the elements you have outlined

Hi Gerry

You seem to have some good replies already. There are four main products that dominate the mid market. They are:

* Sage Line 100 (now called MMS)
* Pegasus Opera II
* Access Dimensions Lite/Dimensions
* Exchequer Enterprise

These four products between them have tens of thousands of sites. Your request for Job Costing would in this instance rule out Sage Line 100 as their new MMS software wont have costing for another year. The old Line 100 software is very dated compared to the other three.

We can provide solutions nationwide with Pegasus and Access Accounts and I would suggest you also talk with Colin at Exchequer to look at their software too.
