Use ACCPAC Discovery or Corporate Series
ACCPAC cover whole range of accounting software
comprehensively. They have been around for 25 years and have about 500,000 licenced users in about 120 countries.ACCPAC is also approved By the Institute of Chartered Accountants. By combining your ACCPAC with a Time Mangement Application called PROJECA and Microsoft Project you have a very powerful and
relatively inexpensive solution no matter how large or small your requirment (Vertical Solutions for Solicitors can be fairly expensive and further customization for your particular business's nuances by the vendor are bound to cost, as is training for staff on use of a particular system)ACCPAC comes with Crystal Enterprise which is a very powerful and useful reporting software application. The application allows you to use the data tables of ACCPAC in the ways that you may require for your particular business.A lot of the vertical solution providers use Crystal Reports and charge vast amounts when this application is
used.If you use a thin client application security on sensitive data will become an issue
as you will be using a browser from anywhere to access you system so make sure that your system is secure.

More information
Simon

I'll avoid jumping to solutions we have for some solicitor clients......

1 what functions are you thinking of
are you looking to just have a plain accounting system to bill, post purchase invoices, do VAT returns, etc, or are you looking for a time and billing solution to increase time recovery or are you looking for something to deal with client monies or a combination of all or some of these

2 expectation of cost
any choice will be impacted by your expectation of cost - £1K, £5K, £50K - of software and services. Generally packaged software is cheaper than industry specific, but the concept still applies

3 how many users
depending on what you want to do will impact the number of users and what type of users. For example, a timesheet solution may lead you to say 'I want users to be able to log in from home and fill in a timesheet or bill' or you may want a solution where you need only 3 concurrent users or 15 concurrent users

I could list a long list of questions, but some direction on the above would help !!. If you want to contact us, please do, or if you are able come to Softworld (6/7 march) are see us (stand 538) and others !

Worth a look
Osprey from Pracctice is worth looking at and a system that was excellent on DOS, but I haven't seen the windows version is Qnix.

The main thing, I agree with Daniel is to decide on what you want, some systems are excellent for client accounting, time recording etc etc etc, but then can be weak on the actual accounting side for getting decent information for the partners.
