Beware one off costs
For book-keeping software, no problem, but for statutory accounts? Do they send you free upgrades whenever standards and reporting requirements change, as they often do?
.
Moneysoft folow up
Stephen - that's of interest to me.
I know Moneysoft payroll is very good.
Would you 'recommend' their final accounts software?
Or perhaps I should ask 'Does it do the job considering the price?' My own needs for FAs are small at the moment.
Accounting programme
We have used the Moneysoft products: Money Manager (Business Edition) and Final Accounts since 2000. For ease of use, masses of reports and flexibility it is hard to beat. Cost wise MM is £93.94 and FA is £58.69 - both one off costs.
Rymans
They sell a good range of calculators/ rulers, stationery etc. They don't break either. I have tried.
why not do it manually/word processing
This way you wont spent too much of your hard earned childrens inheritance!

Not only on price but sheer flexibility (after all, it is essentially a spreadsheet application).
Me too!
I'll second that Andy for that reason I too will not be contributing further.
One of the Dragons.
IRIS
They do a range of products and their starter packs are priced from £55 pm.
We have used IRIS for over 12 years and it is a truly integrated package. You don't have to re-type, export to Excel etc. You just post up to accounts production (you can import CSV files, e.g. SAGE TB), do the tax computations in business tax and produce the CT600 for a company (and file online straight off the system with one click) or go to Personal Tax for the Tax Return (which again can be filed online straight off the system).
The benefits of IRIS is that you will never outgrow it, as you grow you can add modules: practice management; company secretarial; time and fees; etc. It even copes with multiple offices for when you get really big!
For £55pm (less than an hours fees) it will save you hours of time.
It is also regularly updated for changes to FRS's, tax law etc so you know you are always using making the correct disclosures etc.
If you are near me (Heathrow area) you are more than welcome to come and see it working.
As NH says, you get what you pay for. We investigated the market thoroughly before we made the decision and we have never regretted it - and costed out our IRIS probably costs less than £10 per client each year.
I wasn't too keen on Amar's tone . .
but yours, TC, was much worse. And for that reason, I'm out.
LOOK
This question has beeen done umpteen time on this forum - just do a search and you will find your answer atleast 10 times over!

Easy to use, unlimited companies/self assessment/partnerships and a reasonable price.
I've used it for over 6 years and no problems. Links to excel (for accounts production in correct formats) and tax production software such as TaxCalc and others
Try their free download.
Best software
If you are dealing with small businesses you cannot beat spreadsheets: Bank cash vat and tb. Type out one wonderful set of company/soletrader accounts and use as a template.
Sage accounts used to be OK for those clients who give and take credit but I find the latest versions a bit over the top and the accounts it produces need to be typed up anyway.
Nice response!
TC - please dont be put off by the last somewhat blunt response. I have no doubt you are new to this site.
The question you asked is indeed a really popular one and if you do a search you will get lots of answers.
My suggestions from many years running my own practice is -
1. Test as many as you can.
2. Dont just pick the cheapest if you want to build a practice - its false economy.
3. Dont swop and change if you can - try and stick with one good supplier.
PS Dont be put off by the miserable responses you somethimes get on here. Good luck!
