Agent authorisation

Agent authorisation

Didn't find your answer?

Many contributors are having problems with online agents authorisations, HMRC's preferred method. Some are reverting to the paper 64-8 route as well in an effort to get set up.

I have just taken a client on who cannot file online so I must go down the 64-8 route. I made contact with a manager at the Longbenton office a few months ago and called her yesterday to see what the timescale is for processing a 64-8. The turn around is quite quick, perhaps a day or 2, since they have taken on extra staff but they are currently receiving around 7,000 a day. I find this amazing but I wonder how many are just duplicates or sent because the online route is slow??

Problem with online
The SA online services issues page shows that there are problems with the online authorisation tool for some agents. The recommendation is to ring online services helpdesk (0845 60 55 999) and if they can't sort it quickly to send paper. Don't forget that in extremis you can arrange to fax a paper 64-8. To do this ring your agent dedicated line. See this article for more details.
