Another HMRC IT glitch?

Another HMRC IT glitch?

Didn't find your answer?

I was surprised to receive a load of agent copies of penalties & determinations relating to a client's corporation tax return that should have been filed in March 07. Having checked my file I find that the return was filed using HMRC's own software on 16 March 07 and I have the email confirmation & prints of the online acknowledgement & the return etc.
This looks like a repeat of the PAYE filing glitch that resulted in a load of wrong penalties. Has anybody else had a problem with lost corporation tax returns?
I am a bit fed up with the number of appeals required this year due to HMRC problems - so far have had penalties due to returns being logged in when processed rather than when received, P35s issued for PAYE schemes that issued years ago, determinations for dormant companies being struck off and problems with PAYE payments recorded as received late when they were paid on time. To date I have had not one apology & my clients are not too chuffed to simply get a response to say that the "penalty has been reduced to £0."
