I understand that a substantial number of CTC/WTC claimants fell foul of the rule that on the occasion of the child reaching 16 positive action is required on the part of the claimant to notify the tax credits office (within 3 months) that the child remains in full time education in order for the claim to continue. I gather that the tax credit office has acknowledged the extent of this problem by changing their practices so as actively to solicit this information from claimants as the relevant birthday approaches.

Does anyone know where I can find any statistics of the number of taxpayers who have been adversely affected? Clearly some of those who reached 16 will not have continued into further education and the claim will correctly have ceased, so it will be no easy task to estimate the number affected, but there may be something in the Office of National Statistics website if only you know where to look.

Help?
Thanks
