Any accountants here relocated for work?

Any accountants here relocated for work?

Didn't find your answer?

I have been offered a job 150 miles away from home. The salary is not amazing, around 19k including study package. Company deals with petrochemicals and oil..

I graduated two years ago, and i am studying CIMA. And i have had no success looking for work in Durham or the North-East.

Has anyone here relocated succesfuly?

I will be moving to the City of Leeds.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

Mmm...
I think 19k is pretty good for a PQ with no experience!

It's true that the market for accountants in the North East is pretty flat, but the supply of candidates isn't that brilliant, either. Getting work shouldn't be that difficult. Maybe it's your perception of salary levels that is the problem? Accountants are usually valued on their work value not their qualifications, so the fact that you are a graduate and have been studying without working in accountancy may not make a lot of difference.

Although I live and work in the North East, I have spent time in Leeds and I think it's a pretty good place to be, both from the social and work point of view.

Good luck

distances
Leeds is only about 68 miles from Durham and
an easy journey by train.Lots of trains. An hour and half up A1 north.
Leeds has loads of night life (like Newcastle)
frankly, I would be surprised if you could get much more than £19k with a study package thrown in.
Good centre for Dales
best of luck

Thanks for all the advice..
I have near enough two years of experience working in finance, and have experience both with management accounts and financial accouts.

Also i can do pivot tables, vlookups blah blah, so i am reltively decent with excel..

They have offered to pay for my CIMA (75% of it), and i will be working on producing the monthly management accounts, variance analysis, forecasting, KPI..

Should i be able to qualify in a role such as this?

There must be jobs in Durham/NE
Gary,

Personally, I'd only consider such a move if 1. the Salary was fantastic and 2. the Role was fantastic.

From your post, it seems at least one of these (ie. Salary) is not what you would hope for.

If you haven't already done so, you should draw up a pro's and con's list and don't under estimate the importance of family and friends being close by. Also, have you looked at the cost of living in Leeds ? 19k won't give you much spare cash.

Are you sure there are no jobs in Durham/NE ?In my experience, there is always demand for good part qualified accountants. Have you looked at temping ? This is sometimes a good way to get your experience and can often lead to permanent employment.

Good luck.
